Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel

Just across the road from Coed Owen Farm is the Nant Ddu Lodge where you can enjoy fine dining, bar meals and local ales. Visit for lunch (12pm - 2.30pm) or dinner (6pm - 9.30pm). They also have a spa where you can enjoy treatments.

Coed Owen Bunkhouse has easy access to the Taff Trail cycle path. Just a 15 minute cycle from the property and you're right on it!


The trail is 88km in length, stretching between Brecon and Cardiff Bay. A large proportion of the Taff Trail is traffic free, cycling along former tramways, railways and canal towpaths.


Mountain Bikers will find Coed Owen Bunkhouse a great place to stay because of its location to Mountain Biking Centres.  Bike Park Wales has just opened and is a world class mountain bike park, built for mountain bike riders by mountain bike riders! Bike Park Wales is a great day out for all ages and abilities. Just a 10 minute drive from Coed Owen Bunkhouse, just off the A470. www.bikeparkwales.co.uk


The Taff Trail links with Afan Forest Park which has 5 world class trails and over 100 km of single track. Afan is home to some of the most challenging descents in the UK. www.afanforestpark.co.uk


Cwmcarn Forest, with only red and black trails is aimed at the more serious mountain bikers. A year-round uplift service is also available. www.cwmcarnforest.co.uk


The Brecon Beacons offers a huge range of off-road biking experiences, from rides like The Gap and Sarn Helen Roman Road that cut through the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park, to gentle, grassy routes across scenic commons. 


Adrenaline junkies and the more sedate cyclist will find Coed Owen Bunkhouse a great place to be.


Bring your own bike or we can arrange bike hire for you. We have plenty of storage facilities for your equipment and bike 


Pen Y Fan is the second highest mountain peak in Wales, and the highest in South Wales and the Brecon Beacons National Park. To reach Penyfan is a 1 to 2 hour walk (depending on your speed) from the bunkhouse at Coed Owen Farm. You can walk over the hills

Adventure Activities

Garwnant Visitor Centre

Garwnant Visitor Centre Just 10 minutes walk through our fields and you can be at Garwnant Visitor Centre where you can enjoy fresh, local food served in their restaurant and coffee shop or picnic in the forest. There is a childrens play area and low rope course. Here you can also buy your fishing permits to fish in the local reservoir. Guided educational walks and cycling are available too.

There are three reservoirs, Beacons Reservoir, Cantref Reservoir and Llwyn On Reservoir situated within a few miles of each other along the main A470 Brecon to Merthyr Tydfil road where you can fly fish for brown trout and rainbow trout. Cantref Reservoir is only 5 minutes walk from Coed Owen. Fishing permits can be bought from Garwnant visitor centre which is 10 minutes walk from the farm.



National Park Visitor Centre

National Park Visitor Centre is only 15 minutes away from us, where you can learn all about the Brecon Beacons National Park, have a cup of tea, buy Welsh gifts from the shop and enjoy guided walks


Brecon Mountain Railway

Brecon Mountain Railway Just a short car journey away from Coed Owen Farm. Enjoy a ride on a vintage steam locomotive through beautiful scenery along the Taf Fechan Reservoir. They can accommodate wheelchair users too


Ystradfellte Waterfalls

Ystradfellte Waterfalls is only 30 minutes away by car and a popular attraction for walkers who can take in the spectacular sights of waterfalls common to this area


National Showcaves Centre

National Showcaves Centre for Wales Approximately 40 minutes by car from Coed Owen Farm and one of the major tourist attractions in Wales and the Brecon Beacons National Park. They have also created one of the world's largest dinosaur parks


Brecon Town

Brecon Town You can catch a bus from the bottom of the farm drive or take the car, or better still walk down the roman road to the historic cathedral town of Brecon. Home of the famous South Wales Borderers Regiment who fought zulu warriors. Brecon Museum can tell you the full story. Here you can cruise the canal on a boat and wander through Georgian narrow streets

Visiting Penderyn Distillery has become one of the most popular things to do in South Wales and is a genuine Welsh tourist attraction. The centre is just 20 minutes drive away from Coed Owen Bunkhouse and well worth the visit

Cyfarthfa Castsle

Just 10 minutes drive from Coed Owen is Cyfarthfa Castle, Museum and Art
Gallery, “Jewel in Merthyr’s Crown”. The ‘Ironmaster’ William Crawshay
commissioned Cyfarthfa Castle in 1824. Here you can view dresses by Laura
Ashley and Julien McDonald. Children will love Cyfartha’s Splashpad and Play
water park. Here you can picnic and have tea and cakes in the café.
